Lutheran
I was raised in the ELCA (that’s the more liberal branch of Lutheranism). I currently live on the west coast and still attend an ELCA church. I go to church every Sunday. I serve communion once a month, play in the bell choir, participate in theology discussions. I work at a church, too – an Episcopal one. And many people in my family are heavily involved in the Lutheran church – as pastors, musicians, and published theologians.
X
The “X” in “Lutheran X” is a reference to Generation X. I’m in my late 20s. I grew up in an age of technology and the onset of the internet. As a child, I lived in large east coast cities and have always been politically and socially liberal. I was a child of the 80s – with hairsprayed, punk rock babysitters taking care of me and HIV/AIDS as a rising plague. I was raised in science classes – studying modern-day environmental problems and evolutionary biology all throughout college. These influences formed me and made me the passionate, caring, city girl that I am.
Blog
There have always been so many influences in my life that did not necessarily sync with my Christian orientation. Out here on the west coast, it has been difficult finding Christian friends. In many ways, I’ve been a Christian, but sometimes I wonder how much I’ve actually had a Christian faith. Have I let faith guide my life? How often? How thoroughly? In what ways?
I’m starting this blog because I want to explore my faith. No, more than that. I want to nurture it. I’m not trying to figure out the cosmos here. I’m trying to figure out the role of Christian faith in my life. I like the idea of exploring faith without fear of believing what I find.
Why a blog? A blog is such a public forum for such personal questions. But one thing I feel strongly about Christianity – it is that you cannot be a Christian in isolation. Identifying what makes me a Christian must be asked in the context of community - my church community, my social communities, my familial communities. And so a public forum feels right. I’ve left my blog open for comments, because should anyone read it and think I’m saying something ignorant or have a thought to share, then I invite that and I look forward to hearing others’ thoughts.

Any ideas for specific topics? I’m starting off focusing on scripture, but I’d love to be exploring other topics too.
I’m thinking about opening up categories to address all aspects of life & I’m open to suggestions on what to tackle first.
